A Brooklyn native whose roots are firmly planted in her Jamaican heritage and in the neighborhood where she grew up and currently resides, the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, U.S. Representative Yvette D. Clarke was first elected to Congress in November 2006 and represents the 11th Congressional District of New York. 

 Rep. Clarke sits on the House Education and Labor Committee, the House Small Business Committee, and the House Committee on Homeland Security, where she is the Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, and Science and Technology.

Under her leadership, the subcommittee acted through legislation and oversight on a variety of issues, including cybersecurity, biodefense, pandemic influenza preparedness, nuclear detection, mitigating radiological attacks, agro-terrorism, homeland security research and development, and critical infrastructure protection, including most especially protection of the U.S. electric grid.
